Motor effect and motors

Force on a Conductor in a Magnetic Field: a brass axle rolls along parallel brass rails between the poles of a U magnet when current flows.
Force on a Conductor Balance: a current balance with a rider on a 0 to 75 mm scale, to relate the force to field strength and current.
Barlow Wheel: a toothed copper disc about 90 mm across dipping into a mercury trough between the arms of a horseshoe magnet; 4 to 6 V, supplied without battery.
Demonstration Electric Motor (Simple) (6 to 8 V DC, two-pole armature, disc commutator, removable magnet) and Demonstration Electric Motor (4.5 to 9 V DC, on a laminated board): open motors with every part visible.

Induction, generators and high voltage

Which items need mains power?
The Magnetising and Demagnetising Solenoid and the Demonstration Transformer primary are listed for 230 V mains, the Tesla Coil for 220 V AC, and the higher-turn Demountable Transformer coils for mains use. Most other items run on a low-voltage DC supply or a battery.
