Magnet lists 12 permanent magnets and accessories for school and college physics labs: bar, rod, cylindrical, U-shaped and horseshoe magnets in steel alloy or Alnico, ceramic ring magnets, magnet balls, a suspension magnet, and a brass stirrup for hanging bar magnets. The sizes below are as given in each listing.
Magnets by material and shape
| Magnet | Material | Size and finish, as listed |
|---|---|---|
| Magnet Bar, Steel | Steel alloy | 12 x 5 mm section in different lengths; painted half blue and half red; supplied in pairs with keepers |
| Magnet, Rods Pair, Alnico | Alnico | 150 mm long, 10 mm in diameter; sold in pairs; north pole painted red |
| Magnet, Cylindrical | Alnico | 12 mm in diameter in different lengths; painted half blue and half red; in pairs with keepers |
| Magnet U Shape | Steel alloy | 12 mm wide, 6 mm thick, different lengths; painted half blue and half red |
| Magnet, Horse Shoe | Steel alloy | 12 mm wide, 6 mm thick, different lengths; painted half blue and half red |
| Magnet, U Shape, Alnico | Alnico | 12 mm wide, 6 mm thick, different lengths; painted half blue and half red |
| Magnet Set, Alnico | Alnico | Four magnets with keepers: small horseshoe 25 x 8 mm, large horseshoe 35 x 15 mm, and two bars 80 x 15 x 10 mm |
| Magnet Set | Alnico | The same four-magnet set with keepers, as listed |
| Magnet Ring | Ceramic | Set of 6 rings from 32 mm to 75 mm outer diameter |
| Magnet Balls | Chrome steel | One ball painted blue and one red, joined by true poles, 20 cm length |
| Magnet, Suspension | Not stated | 32 x 6 mm with a central slot and hole for suspension, to show the principle of the magnetic compass |
Steel alloy or Alnico
The range offers the same shapes in two materials. Bar and U magnets come in steel alloy, and rod, cylindrical and U magnets and the four-piece set come in Alnico, which the set listings describe as powerful. Keepers are listed with the steel bar magnets, the cylindrical magnets and both four-piece sets. Keepers close the magnetic circuit between uses, so order magnets that come with them for long-term storage.
Suspending a magnet
The Stirrup is made of brass wire and is listed for suspending bar magnets. Brass is non-magnetic, so the stirrup does not disturb the magnet it holds. The suspension magnet, with its central slot and hole, is made to hang or pivot freely and show how a compass needle settles.

Questions buyers ask
How are the poles marked?
Most magnets here are painted half blue and half red. On the Alnico rod pair, the north pole is painted red.
Which magnets come with keepers?
The steel bar magnets and cylindrical Alnico magnets, both supplied in pairs, and the two four-magnet Alnico sets.
What sizes are the ring magnets?
The set has six ceramic rings, from 32 mm to 75 mm outer diameter.
Are lengths fixed for the bar and U magnets?
No. The steel bar, cylindrical and U-shaped magnets are listed in different lengths with a fixed section, so state the length needed when ordering.
